How Storage Providers should Procure Renewable Energy

Just as with Carbon Accounting Methodologies, there are various ways to procure renewable energy for electricity consumption needs, and SPs can employ one or more methods. However, there is also a ‘hierarchy’ to these methods, based on their perceived impact of mitigating energy grid emissions, commonly referred to as ‘Additionality’.

The various Renewable Energy Sourcing Methods that SPs may choose from, which are adopted from the RE100 Technical Criteria, are listed in descending order of perceived precision and Additionality in the following section.
